Susan Shelton is a self-taught artist whose work reflects her cultural heritage as a native of Mexico, her love for her adopted home of California, and her educational background in science.
She is a great admirer of Mexican folk art and a lover of nature, and these influences are easy to see throughout her body of work, which includes functional pottery, sculpture, tile, large-scale carved ceramic murals, works cast in bronze, and a variety of landscape and public art installations for parks, schools, churches, government buildings and housing developments.
Shelton’s public art projects have included works for University of California, Davis, the California State Capitol, and the California History Museum.
Susan’s latest public art piece is the “Davis Centennial Seal”, a 6 1/2 ft. commemorative bronze medallion that chronicles the history of Davis from its founding to the present day. The Seal was installed in downtown Davis, California, in 2021.
