Children's Panel
This panel portrays Davis as what we know is a wonderful place to raise our children. Our investment in our children reflects our Vision, Aspiration, and Optimism for the future.
The opportunities for enrichment through sports, the arts, STEM, and outdoor education activities are abundant.
However, depicted is a child looking from the outside at the other children. She represents the children who have been excluded and deprived of opportunities. There were native Patwin children forcibly removed from our area and taken to Solano, San Francisco, and San Jose to be Christianized. There were Japanese families forcibly removed from Davis and put into concentration camps. There are and have been, for decades, children of migrant farmworker families who enter and then must leave our classrooms, unable to complete the school year, never having the opportunity to participate fully in our community
